A group photo on a 9 3/4 X 7 ½ inch mount with printed titleFIELD, STAFF AND LINE OFFICERS OF THE 19TH MAINE VOLUNTEERS

. Depicts 32 officers of the hard fought 19th Maine Infantry in a great variety of uniforms and head gear. Taken at the time of the mustering out of the Regiment on State House grounds in Augusta, Maine May 31, 1865. An extremely crisp view with excellent contrast this is a rare view of a good regiment. With an extensive history too voluminous to do justice to here, suffice it to say that whine the 19 Maine Volunteer Infantry saw action at such as the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, the Siege of Petersburg and battles at Ream's Station, the Boydton Plank Road, Hatcher's Run and the Appomattox Campaign they are most known for their participation at
Gettysburg
where in two days fighting the 19th Maine lost over half of the Regiment with 12 officers and 220 men fallen.
