    Description

This gorgeous 6'6" Pleyel Brazilian Rosewood Grand Piano (#122906) was manufactured in 1900 and has been completely rebuilt and restored to like-new condition as an homage to Chopin, the undisputed poet of the piano. No other composer is so closely linked to a particular piano maker. In his own words:
"There are certain times when I feel more inspired, filled with a mighty force that compels me to listen to my inner voice. Then more than ever I feel the need for a Pleyel piano."
Visually, this particular Pleyel is wonderfully similar to the great composer's own, famously displayed in Great Britain's Cobbe Collection (shown in attached photo #2). Note the exquisite arms, the gorgeous hand carved legs that taper down to solid brass ferrels and casters, the inlaid brass company name embedded in the lid, the elegant harp-shaped pedal lyre, the richly patterned Brazilian rosewood cabinet, and the beautifully preserved original natural bone and ebony keys. It even comes complete with 19th Century-Style functional slide-out lampstands also finished in matching Brazilian rosewood. All these features recall Chopin's own Pleyel with reverent precision.
As a musical instrument, this piano was designed to emulate the sound and qualities the great composer developed with his partners and friends at Pleyel during his lifetime. For instance, unlike all other major manufacturers, the strings come in 18 graduated gauges. While preserving the best and most distinctive features that produced the "Chopin sound", this early 20th century piano is fully modern in its mechanics. It is overstrung and designed and built to hold tune at the modern A440.
Let's talk about value. Because Pleyel closed their doors in 2013, and is less well known today than several other European makers, their pianos are available at more attractive price points. The attached appraisal puts this piece at ,500. It can be yours for ,500, more than a 28% discount, if purchased by July 31st, 2019.
By comparison, one of the leading German piano manufacturers markets their "Chopin edition" for about 10 times the appraised value of our more precise replica. Theirs is mahogany, not rosewood, and has only a few details suggestive of the Pleyel style. This Pleyel doesn't merely suggest or imitate what Pleyel designed for Chopin - it is the real deal for about a tenth of the cost.
Sale includes the piano, matching desk and rack with sliding lampstands, and a matching Pleyel bench. Given the challenges inherent to transporting such a delicate instrument, you will be responsible for arranging pickup and delivery to your address of choice.
