EXTREMELY RARE !!!!!
ORIGINAL July 1862 CDV PHOTO OF THE UNION NAVY -  USS ESSEX - ironclad battleship coaling up at Baton Rouge, Louisiana ....Ive owned this photo for decades and now am gradually parting with items...This photo has been published in a multitude of Civil War books / publications. Notation on back also notes that the ships off the stern of the USS ESSEX are the ships RICHMOND and the MISSISSIPPI.

I originally got this long ago to frame up with an 1863 Civil War letter I got decades ago- that briefly mentioned WILLIAM PORTER and his ship and crew of the USS ESSEX. ....The old letter also mentioned Union Generals Banks and Butler. I never got it framed up so am now selling this photo as well as the letter etc in other current Ebay auctions...

1. They include ORIGINAL - AWESOME three page Civil War letter from a Union Private of the 47th Massachusetts Infantry to a friend who was a Major in the 30th Massachusetts Infantry....March 1863 ....lots of detail in it...also it mentions walking to go see Union battleship Ironclad USS ESSEX....as well as mention of its crew and Commander William Porter....and also getting himself involved stealing some US ARMY sugar supplies through a friend of his who is supposed to be guarding the supply...Also mentions costs of things, wages etc.
2. Another cdv photo auction is selling original Cdvs of Generals Banks and Butler - as they had also been mentioned in the letter - and Id originally hoped to frame everything together in a great display...
3. The third other auction is an original Cdv photo of the Uss Essex ships commander - William " Dirty Bill" Porter...thanks for looking!
